Commodity Procurement Manager

Join a multi-national leader in animal nutrition with a network of feed mills in The Prairies and British Columbia to support their Western Canadian operations. As the agri-commodity procurement expert, you will be relied on to develop strategies, and manage availability and price risk for the purchasing team in Western Canada. You will lead with an entrepreneurial, ambitious and innovative management style to ensure a collaborative approach for the short- and long-term success of the business unit.

Reporting to the Director of Nutrient Delivery, you will:

  • Lead the Western Canadian Procurement team in all activities related to procurement and merchandising: sourcing of commodities, execution of contractual agreements and accurate position management
  • Determine ingredient purchase requirements, set ingredient market prices and negotiate purchase agreements for all agri-commodities
  • Lead, motivate and provide guidance to the procurement team, and collaborate as a team, ensuring the procurement strategy is aligned with the company goals, vision and mission
  • Collaborate with buyers, the logistics team and other internal departments to ensure the procurement strategy is well aligned, while working closely with sourcing teams on global and regional purchasing initiatives
  • Manage position reports and forecasts for Western Canada, and conduct marketplace analysis to identify purchasing opportunities
  • Establish and grow strong relationships with vendors and partners to capitalize on profitable business opportunities

Your background includes:

  • 5+ years’ experience in an agri-commodities purchasing/procurement/trading position and a fundamental knowledge of the agriculture industry
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in (agri)business, commerce or related field preferred. Willing to consider a combination of relevant work experience and ongoing professional development activities
  • Effective leadership experience implementing and managing a collaborative vision and direction of procurement/buying for an organization
  • Clear and concise communication abilities (written and verbal)
  • Strong business and financial acumen with a proactive and creative out-of-the-box mindset when solving challenging and complex business problems
  • A driven, persuasive and collaborative approach with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, exciting and dynamic environment
