Research Program Manager - Food Science

Our client is a Canadian food production and processing company with international recognition and customers for their vegetable-based frozen food offerings. As the Research Program Manager – Food Science, you will have the opportunity to take on a pivotal role developing formulations for new products and improving research and development processes within the department.

Reporting to the Director, Research & Development, you will:

  • Develop and oversee all aspects of the food research and development programs and product formularies
  • Lead and complete creative projects and research to develop brand new products and processes
  • Collaborate with other business units including sales and marketing to define and develop project charters for research activities
  • Work with peers on the bench and pilot line when developing new products to achieve objectives for the food science department
  • Enhance research and development by preparing submissions for government funding; specifically, the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program
  • Maintain research and development databases, and record financial and time commitments for different projects and/or grants

Your background includes:

  • 2+ years’ experience in a food product development role within a research and development environment
  • A diploma or bachelor’s degree in food science, culinary science or related field
  • Previous experience with, and knowledge of, the chemistry of starch- or wheat-based coatings strongly preferred
  • Strong attention to detail as well as effective time management and organizational skills
  • Clear and concise communication abilities (written and verbal), and demonstrated success as a member of a team
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite
