Financial Controller
Huron-Bruce County, Ontario

Our client is an independent, family-owned agribusiness that has been operating for over 40+ years, in southwestern Ontario. With customers in international markets, our client is involved in all stages of seed and grain production, as well as commodity marketing, with a speciality in exporting IP soybeans. As the Financial Controller, you will be accountable for accounting procedures and reporting, and mitigate risk as you oversee the execution of the organization’s commodity program.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will:

  • Be the in-house lead for all financial and accounting operations with an emphasis on control systems, transaction-processing, policies and procedures
  • Be the lead for the setup and monitoring of IT security, implementing new scripts and business enterprise set up
  • Act as the subject matter expert for all transactional areas of the organization, and be responsible for coordinating and conducting the annual audit with third-party auditors
  • Manage and mentor up to four direct reports, demonstrating your financial expertise and leadership to ensure peer growth within their positions and the organization
  • Take on special projects as required and collaborate with various teams to develop proposals for government funding
  • Utilize the 360 Forex Trading platform to execute the Forex strategy
  • Establish, monitor and analyze financial benchmarks and tools to evaluate the organization’s performance, and lead change management strategies when necessary to ensure the optimal use of resources

Your background includes:

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in (agri)business, accounting, commerce or related field
  • 4+ years’ experience in a financial operations position and a completed Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  • Prior experience implementing IT programs, business enterprise systems and improving processes with IT advancements, including security, script implementation and administration
  • Experience executing commodity risk management and forex strategies
  • Demonstrated experience identifying issues, developing solutions and implementing new processes within the financial/accounting operations of an organization
  • A strategic and analytical mindset paired with project management abilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate complex financial information to different stakeholders within an organization
  • Previous leadership and mentorship experiences with a proven track record of empowering peers to succeed
